What about those bumper stickers...

You might be able to tell from the name of this blog that I am not a huge fan of Christian Bumper stickers. I find them to be nothing more than a laughable joke than anything. My favorite bumper sticker of all time is the one that we have all seen..."Jesus is my co-pilot". I had a friend who had this on his car and I would always tease him about how he had is priorities out of order. I always thought I needed to come up with a bumper sticker that said, "Jesus is my Pilot" to make it more realistic. I put that off far too long and somebody beat me to it. Have you ever seen the bumper sticker, "Honk if you Love Jesus"? Try that one in the heart of London, England and you would assume that 3/4 of the country love Jesus.

I simply fail to see the relevance of them, really of bumper stickers in general. Don't get me wrong I think many are cute, and I even laugh on occasion, but I really hope that our witness goes beyond a sticky piece of paper attached to the backs of our vehicles. Growing up we always used to sing a song that had the line, "they will know we are Christians by our love, by our love, yes they'll know we are Christians by our love". It is far more important for each of us to worry about how we are showing God's love to others through our actions and not our cars.

Hey if you have a bumper sticker on your car and you enjoy and appreciate it, by all means be my guest, but be as prepared to show your living your beliefs as you are to posting your beliefs. And by the way if you have a "Honk if you Love Jesus" sticker on your car, I will honk, so don't give me a dirty look or a one fingered salute if I annoy you too much either!
